Home Extensions

Home extensions are an amazing way to create more usable space in your home and make it function better for you. Some people opt for home extensions to add extra bedrooms for their growing family, while others want to tack on a brand new kitchen and living space to experience an open space floor plan in an older heritage home.

Aside from adding comfort and functionality for you and your family,  house extension can also add value to your property, particularly if you’re planning on adding high-value spaces like kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and family living spaces.

However, there are many things to consider when planning a home extensions, including things like heritage parameters and access to the site. Depending on the scale of project, you may even have to find an alternative place to stay during construction. You should also be aware that with certain home renovations and extensions, you may require a permit, and the regulations will differ from state to state and even project to project.

The team here at Harlan Homes can help you handle these challenges throughout the entire process. We can help you design, plan, and build your brand new home extension, helping you breathe new life into your home.

We can help with home extensions and renovations in Sydney and surrounding suburbs including Cammeray, Cremorne, Cremorne Point, Crows Nest, Kirribilli, Kurraba Point, Lavender Bay, McMahons Point, Milsons Point, Neutral Bay, North Sydney, St Leonards, Waverton, and Wollstonecraft.

A home renovation or extension is a great way for you to live in your dream home without the stress of having to hunt for a new house entirely or build one from scratch. It’s a wonderful way to make your current home work better for you. It also helps you improve outdated spaces or elements in your home, which has the added bonus of adding to the value of your home.

Due to the very nature of renovations and extensions, every project is going to be different from one another, so each client – and each project – will have a slightly different experience with us. That being said, we’ve developed a streamlined process that helps guide each interaction to ensure a stress-free journey and positive outcome for everyone involved!

You can have a look at our Build Process page to discover our signature 5-step process.

Depending on the complexity and scale of your renovation, we can usually have you back in your beautifully updated family home within 11 months from site start. Having said that, we love to underpromise and over-deliver, so sometimes our clients are in their homes a lot sooner than expected! We can give you a much more accurate idea of the scope and duration of your renovation once we have had our initial consult.

Generally speaking, a renovation or extension can add value to a house. However, it’s important to note that certain spaces will benefit in this way more than others. Bathroom and kitchen renovations are usually where you see the most return on investment, as well additional rooms in an extension.

Most of our clients have purchased charming single story homes in the inner city that need a refresh or have an extension added due to needing more space for their growing family. When they engage our services, they often request the addition of 2 to 3 bedrooms, another bathroom (or two) plus an addition living room that doubles as a rumpus room for young children. These renovations and extensions often mean that our clients receive the dream home they’ve always wanted, with all the functionality that they need, while still residing in the suburb they know and love. A pretty good outcome, we reckon!

Whilst the Harlan family generally love every aspect of construction, we know not everyone shares the same fondness for it! Building sites are often noisy, dusty, and sometimes dangerous. Therefore, we suggest that all our clients temporarily locate whilst we deliver their new family home. This also gives us more space for material deliveries and storage onsite, and therefore often results in faster construction.

From the outset, when you meet one of the senior management team at your first site assessment, we foster a culture of transparency and collaboration throughout the entire process. This same culture allows us to collectively identify any unexpected issues and collaboratively work toward a solution. The very nature of integrating a modern element into your exiting home has its challenges but together we can adapt and move forward together.

A knockdown rebuild involves demolishing your entire home and replacing it with an all-new build. For older homes in a dilapidated state, a renovation may be too difficult and costly. Our Knockdown & Rebuild page contains more in-depth information about this option.
